Agayu is the Orisha of the dry earth and the desert. He is the patron of the walkers and stevedores. He is the father of Shango and one of the lesser known of the Orisha. He lives in the palm tree and likes to carry children in his shoulders. Agayu is symbolized by the powers of the river and the earthquakes. His character is warlike and irascible. He stays away from superstition and takes devotees through difficult obstacles.
Agayu is a tall gigantic man who lives near the rivers and is the strength that comes from deep inside the soul. He transports people across the rivers and is patron of ferryman. He learned to soothe the very rough rivers and has a relationship with the Orisha Oshun.
